Mishustin urged to reduce the dependence of the Far East on vegetable imports

MOSCOW, August 31 – RIA Novosti. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced the need to reduce the Far East’s dependence on vegetable imports and to bring the region to the average Russian level of self-sufficiency in vegetable products by 2024.

“It is important to reduce the region’s dependence on vegetable imports. In the Far East, all conditions must be provided for a normal life for people. For this, a mechanism of state support for projects for the construction of greenhouse complexes will be developed. It is necessary that all the Far Eastern regions can themselves provide their residents with vegetables no worse, than in other constituent entities of the Russian Federation, “Mishustin said at a meeting with the deputy prime ministers.

“Our goal is to bring the region to the average Russian level of self-sufficiency in vegetable products by 2024,” the prime minister stressed.

In addition, Mikhail Mishustin signed a list of instructions following a working trip to the Far Eastern Federal District, held on August 13-18, 2020:

The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia (D.N. Patrushev), together with the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Ministry of Finance of Russia, develop a mechanism for state support of projects for the construction and (or) modernization of greenhouse complexes in the Far Eastern Federal District from 2021, including reimbursement of part of the direct costs incurred for their construction and / or modernization. The draft of the relevant act shall be submitted to the Government of the Russian Federation in accordance with the established procedure. Deadline – October 6, 2020.

These measures will lead to an increase in the extremely low provision of the population with fresh vegetable products in the off-season, attracting investments in the industry, and a significant decrease in the share of imported products.
