The successes of greenhouses in the Volgograd region

At the end of 10 months of 2020, the indicators of production of greenhouse vegetables amounted to 56.5 thousand tons, which is almost 70% higher than the achievements for the same period last year.

The strengthening of the region’s position in the year-round production of vegetable products is facilitated by the implementation of powerful investment projects in this area. So, over the past six years, the area of greenhouses has grown 2.5 times – up to 115 hectares, and the yield – 3.5 times. As a result, the annual production increased to 71.3 thousand tons. This made it possible to ensure an uninterrupted supply of local products to the residents of the region, as well as to arrange supplies to other regions of Russia.

Today the key producers of off-season vegetables in the Volgograd region are SEC Teplichny, State Unitary Enterprise VOSHP Zarya, LLC Agrocomplex Volzhsky, LLC Ovoschevod – the latter two are included in the list of high-tech greenhouse vegetable growing enterprises in the Southern Federal District.

The industry leaders continue to increase their capacity: LLC Ovoshchevod is implementing a project for the construction of a high-tech complex, which will allow the total volume of the enterprise’s greenhouses to be increased from 59 to 95 hectares, and the production of vegetables to increase to 47 thousand tons per year – 1.6 times compared to 2019 year. Now the company is building a year-round seedling complex with an area of 5 hectares.

It should be reminded that the Governor of the Volgograd Region, Andrei Bocharov, has set the task of increasing greenhouse areas to 150 hectares in the future. This will completely cover the need of the Volgograd region for off-season vegetables of local production and will allow regulating the market.
